Winter Reading Program Winding Up

As we come to the end of February, the Winter Reading Program is winding up (last day to turn in your reading log is March 3rd). We have had over 3,700 participants sign up for the program as of January 31st (which means there are probably over 4,000 by now) and about 15% were already finished reading 5 books. For completing the program, each person gets a WRP 2007 reading notebook. All completers' names will be eligible for the drawing of a gift basket.

In celebration of a truly successful Winter Reading Program, several branches are sponsoring Readers' Receptions. On March 3rd, Bel Air and Fallston will have receptions at Noon, on March 5th, Edgewood will have a reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on March 10th, Jarrettsville will have a reception from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and Joppa at 11:00 a.m. Even if you signed up for WRP at a different branch, please join us at one of these receptions to celebrate the best Winter Reading Program ever!

Babies Love Books!

The library has been serving children for many years, but perhaps you haven't realized that libraries are introducing the youngest of children... babies even! to books. This popular program runs about 20 minutes "officially" but the parents and small tykes are usually having such fun, that the program might run over time. From blowing bubbles to catching balloons, these little readers are having a blast at the library. Come join the fun. Schedules available at our branches or check the Events Calendar: Babies Love Books.

Yes, it's that time of year again. The Winter Reading Program begins January 2nd. Designed for adults and teens, the program extends to early March. To register, sign up at any branch and receive a HCPL Winter Reading Program pen. To complete the program, adults read or listen to 5 or more books. High school teens must read at least 3 books. Complete and return a reading log to receive a special Winter Reading book journal.

The Winter Reading Program is supported by the Friends of Harford County Public Library and the HCPL Foundation. Last day to turn in your completed logs is March 3rd.
