must not think of learning as only what
happens in schools. It is an extended part
of life. The most readily available resource
for all of life is our public library system.

Campaign
for the Abingdon Branch |
 |
In 1996
the Harford County Master Plan identified
the Abingdon-Emmorton-Riverside area as one
of the fastest growing areas in the county.
This rapid growth led to a critical need for
community-oriented facilities including, specifically,
libraries. The Harford County Public Library
recognized this need and initiated plans for
construction. The design provides not only
a state-of-the-art, full service library,
but a community center.
This newest branch of Harford County Public
Library integrates with the community, serves
to reinforce community identity, and promotes
environmental stewardship. The 35,000 square
foot Abingdon Branch will be a source of neighborhood
pride for years to come. |

This fully functional,
state-of-the-art library will include:
- Public meeting rooms
- Cafe´
- Natural outdoor amphitheater
- Botanical study area
- Open space of undisturbed
wetlands, with pond and stream

In order to fully meet
the needs of the community, the budget for
materials and special items needs to be
supplemented by additional sources. Contributors
may participate in the Abingdon "Buy
a Book" campaign, may support specific
areas of the collection, or may participate
in Abingdon room-naming opportunities.
