“According to tourism
statistics for 2003, the latest available, tourism produced,
directly and indirectly, 5,229 jobs paying $143,160,341
in Harford County. Visitors spent $74.5 million on food,
$21 million on lodging in local hotels, motels and bed
and breakfast establishments, and $53.8 million on the
number one activity of all travelers everywhere- shopping.
Guests in the county spent an another 5.7 million on
taxis, limos, vans and motor coaches. They also spent
$34.6 million on entertainment, including admissions
to movies, festivals, events and other attractions.
Fourteen million dollars were spent by visitors on miscellaneous
services, including fuel and car rental.
A total of $541,233,469 in tourism related taxes were
collected.
The statistics were compiled for a research project
with the Maryland Office of Tourism Development and
the Maryland Association of Destination Marketing Organizations.”
