The Silver Reader is rolling into its fourth year.

Silver Reader continues to visit senior housing locations, senior centers, assisted living, adult medical day care and long term care facilities. We have met so many wonderful folks!  When a customer comments, “This is great because I don't drive anymore and can't get to a library ”or “I always find something good to read here,” we are delighted.  After all, it is our goal to provide the quality services of Harford County Public Library where a growing number of seniors can access them conveniently and safely. It has been our pleasure to assist customers in using the on-board computers, to help over 80 individuals participate in the 2009 Winter Reading Program and, of course, to enjoy a variety of books, magazines, audio books, CDs and DVDs. Thanks to all, especially our great customers, for making this service a success… and lots of fun!

June 6 is the 65th anniversary of D-Day.  On this date in 1944, Allied forces landed in Normandy on the north coast of France… a stunning show of strength and resolve on the road to victory in World War II.

June 14 is Flag Day….by annual Presidential Proclamation since 1916, recognizing that on this date in 1777, John Adams introduced a resolution to the Continental Congress establishing a flag of stars and stripes for the new nation.  One of the ways to honor the Americans and nation represented by the flag is to participate in the “Pause for the Pledge.”  At 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, consider taking a moment to recite the Pledge of Allegiance wherever you are.
