Special Collections
Over the years, the library has developed a number of special collections. Here is a brief overview of each one of these collections.

Collection Name Description of Collection
Audio Books Many fiction and nonfiction books are now available in audio format for easy listening, both as cassettes and CDs. When searching our catalog, you can enter audio book, talking book, and sound recording as key words to access this collection. Note: there is also a wonderful collection of juvenile titles as well.
Music Collection

Most of our music collection is now in CD format. Our music collection is categorized by a variety of terms. If you would like to use one of these terms to search our catalog for the music style of your choice, here's a comprehensive list of search terms.

Maryland Collection This is predominately a collection of materials that cover the history of Maryland, Harford County, and various individual communities and towns in the county. The Maryland Collection is primarily a Reference Collection and must be used in the library. There is a Maryland collection in both the adult and juvenile areas. Genealogy Collection The major part of this collection is housed in the Maryland Room of the Bel Air Branch (with introductory materials in the other branches). This is primarily a Reference Collection and must be used in the library. The emphasis of this collection is on Maryland and local history and access to various genealogical resources. This collection is supported with Online Resources.
Oral History Collection Over 209 oral histories have been collected from various Harford County Living Treasures as recordings and transcripts of the interviews. In some cases, photographs are also included. These can be checked out in the Bel Air Branch. Nomination Form for Harford Living Treasures. Large Type Collection Each branch has a collection of books that have been published in large type for the visually impaired. Large type books can be requested and sent from branch to branch. The collection includes both fiction and nonfiction titles.
Parent Teacher Collection Materials have been specfically selected for parents and teachers who work with children up to 8th grade. All branches have a Parent Teacher Collection (PTC).
Learning and Sharing Collection Developmental learning materials for young children and adults to enhance reading readiness skills; includes Cheers for Children, concept kits, and Young Parenting Kits (Bel Air Branch only). (LSC)
Juvenile Historical Collection These children's books, many rare and out of print, are housed in the Bel Air Branch and must be used in the library.
Rolling Reader The Rolling Reader promotes reading for pleasure, visiting after school programs that target at-risk children in grades K through 8.
Silver Reader The Silver Reader is provides services to Older Adults at Senior Centers, Senior Housing and Nursing Homes.
Websites - Special Collection

From time to time, the librarians respond to current happenings and provide access to a collection of websites that are designed to assist our customers with topical content.
