- A Harford
County Public Library employment application for employment
must be completed when applying for employment with
the library.
- Only applications
with a revision date of 12/05 will be accepted.
- A resume may be attached and is
strongly encouraged, but cannot be substituted for
completion of the application.
- Applications are only accepted for
current vacancies. Once the position has been filled,
the application will not be considered for future
vacancies.
- The application must indicate a
valid vacancy number and position title.
- Vacancy numbers are not required
if applying for Page or Page Substitute positions,
however, these applications are only kept on file
for three months.
- A separate application must be completed
for each vacancy for which you are applying.
- An application that is submitted
with two or more vacancy numbers will not be considered
and will be returned to the applicant. [Helpful Hint:
You may photocopy the completed application and then
write separate vacancy number/ position title and
include your original signature on each copy.]
- Unsolicited applications will be
returned to the applicant.
- When completing the application,
do not state “refer to resume.” The application
must be completed in its entirety including signing
and dating in all designated areas.
- Employment applications are available
at any library branch at the circulation desk, from
the Human Resources Office, or print
an application.
- Applications must be typed or printed
in ink.
- Electronic applications are not
accepted at this time.
- Please be sure to thoroughly read
the position requirements on the vacancy announcement
of the position for which you are applying.
- Applicants must meet minimum requirements.
- Applicants who received their diploma
and/or degree from outside of the United States must
submit a certified Education Credential Evaluation
along with the completed application verifying the
diploma/degree equates to the position requirements
he/she is applying.
- If a position requires a degree
or certification, a copy of your transcript(s) must
be provided for all coursework completed or of your
awarded certification. If you are currently enrolled
in high school or graduated in the year 2000 or thereafter,
please note the library participates in the “Achievement
Counts” program; therefore, you are required
to provide a copy of your high school transcript.
All offers of employment are contingent on receiving
appropriate documentation.
- “Closing Date” means
applications and supporting documentation must be
received in the Human Resources Department by the
closing date given on the vacancy announcement.
- “Best Consideration Date”
means application and supporting documentation will
continue to be accepted after the best consideration
date. However, preferential consideration is given
to those applications received by the best consideration
date given on the vacancy announcement. The announcement
will continue to be posted until the position is filled.

- All hourly and salaried employees
who are expected to work 500 hours or more per fiscal
year (July 1 – June 30) are required to enroll
in the Pension System of the State of Maryland.
Enrollment requires a mandatory contribution as
set by the pension system, currently listed as
4%.
- All non-supervisory new hires are
on probation for a period of ninety days.
- All new administrators, managers,
or supervisors are on probation for a period of one
year.
- All employees are hired to work
for the library system and may be required to work
anywhere within the system.
- Hours of work will vary according
to the needs of the library with a combination of
day, evening, and weekend hours including Saturdays,
and Sundays. Sunday hours are currently from October
through April.
