Special Programs in Partnership with Schools

Librarian, Melissa Harrah, worked with Kay Smith, Reading Specialist at Hickory Elementary, to plan "Meet Me at the Library." 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders were invited to meet their teachers at the Bel Air Branch from 6-8:00 p.m. in the Children's Department in December before the winter break. The children came with parents and siblings, a total of 77 children and 43 adults. Kay and several teachers came dresses as pirates and had a "treasure" hunt that sent the children through the stacks, looking for answers to a scavenger hunt. The teacher hopes to repeat this program. The library staff encourages other schools to consider planning similar programs. Great fun was had by all!
