Special
Programs in Partnership with Schools
| Librarian,
Melissa Harrah, worked with Kay
Smith, Reading Specialist at Hickory Elementary,
to plan 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders
were invited to meet their teachers at the Bel Air
Branch from 6-8:00 p.m. in the Children's Department
in December before the winter break. The children
came with parents and siblings, a total of 77 children
and 43 adults. Kay and several teachers came dresses
as pirates and had a "treasure" hunt that
sent the children through the stacks, looking for
answers to a scavenger hunt. The teacher hopes to
repeat this program. The library staff encourages
other schools to consider planning similar programs.
Great fun was had by all! |
