Sharing the Gift, sponsored by Harford County Public Library since 1974, is a story time program staffed by volunteers who have been trained by children's services staff with materials supplied by the library's Learning and Sharing Center. The theme based programs, prepared by the LSC librarian, may include age appropriate books, fingerplays, puppets and filmstrips for children from two to six years of age and are presented at licensed day care centers and nursery schools.

Volunteer Today!
Are you eager to share your love of books and reading to children?

Can you volunteer a minimum of half a day each month from October to April for visits? (More time should be set aside for practice and travel.)

If you answer "Yes !" to these questions, please call the Sharing the Gift librarian at the Be1 Air Branch (4 10-638-315 1 x2244) or the Volunteer Specialist at HCPL Administration (410-273- 5600 x2247). After all of the change that we experienced in October it is now time to settle down and eat some comfort food in preparation for Thanksgiving. If you didn’t try the CD in October, have fun with “Apples and Bananas,” but practice first. Don’t forget to pick up October’s books and return them to your home branch.

This is the month that we order Folkmanis puppets. You can preview the puppets on www.folkmanis.com, and call me if you are interested in ordering any of them. There is a very limited turn around time for placing orders. We do get them in before Christmas.

HAPPY THANKGIVING!!!

FINGERPLAYS
The Pizza Man
Oh, the pizza man, the pizza man, he pounds the dough as hard as he can.

He twirls it around, and around, and around, and then he throws it up and down.

He puts on the sauce, the meat and the cheese, and puts it in the oven at 400 degrees.

And so it’s done and ready to eat.
Oh, Pizza Man, thanks for the treat!

(Motion as if pounding and kneading dough)

(Motion of twirling dough and throwing it up, catching it on fist.)

(Motion of putting ingredients on dough, then putting pizza in oven.)

Apple Tree
Away up high in the apple tree,
Two red apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could.
And down came the apples,
Mmmmmm were they good.

(Hold hands above head.)
(Form circles with thumb and forefinger of each hand. Smile.)
(Put hands out as if on tree – shake.)
(Hands above head and lower to ground.)
(Rub tummy.)
One Whole Pie
One whole pie set by the door,
Cut into pieces, I count four.

Four pieces of pie all for me,
I ate one piece, now there are three.

Three pieces of pie for me too,
I ate another piece, now there are two.

Two pieces of pie. Oh! What fun!
I ate another piece, now there is one.

One piece of pie I can’t wait!
I ate that piece, empty plate!

(Hold up four fingers.)

(Bend down one finger.)

(Bend down two fingers.)

(Bend down three fingers.)

(Bend down four fingers.)

Do the Turkey Hop

Do the turkey hop.
Do the turkey run.
Do the turkey gobble.
It’s a lot of fun.

Now flap your wings
Like the turkeys do.
Then run from the farmer
Before he catches you!

(Hop in place.)
(Run in place.)

(Make gobbling sound.)

(Flap arms at sides.)

(Run in place.)
