Opening the
Gift A Daycare Storytime Program
|
Let
the Library come to you!
Each month, from September through
May, the Opening the Gift librarian visits
participating day care homes for a 45-minute session
geared at fostering early literacy skills among preschool-aged
children.
This free service is available to licensed
daycare providers who will have at least 4 children
ages 2-4 in attendance for each session. Your active
participation in these sessions will introduce you to
the resources available from the Harford County Public
Library as well as ideas for including story time activities
in your regular routine. You may also qualify for three
hours Core of Knowledge credit (Approval # CKO-152862)
through HCPL’s partnership with Open Doors Child
Care Resource Center.
The Opening the Gift Newsletter,
containing book and activity suggestions supporting
our monthly theme is provided for every participating
child and day care provider. This valuable resource
will give you the opportunity to repeat the rhymes with
the children, and is a ready-made thematic unit at your
fingertips!
Over the years Opening the Gift has reached
thousands of children and their licensed caregivers.
Past participants have commented about Opening the
Gift:
I loved the program and my kids
can’t wait for the ‘library lady’
to return each month!”
“The parents comment often about the program and
how they are so encouraged that
Harford County offers such programs.”
“This is a great program. I think for some of
the smaller children, this has been their only exposure
to the library services. My parents love the fact that
this is a part of my daycare program.”
“The newsletter was very
good for my parents – they all go to the library
more often now.”
