What's new with LEAP

We’ve added several new kits to the LEAP shelves, and we’re making it easier to get them! Check out the newest kits to hit the shelves. Solar energy and robotics are hot topics and now you can explore them at home. We are also making some changes to how LEAP kits are checked out. Soon you will be able to request them using your library card just like you request a book.

Solar Energy Kit—now available
Build a car or a pump powered by solar energy. Solar energy is one of the hottest topics around. Using the materials in this kit you can explore this renewable energy option. You can even use the solar battery to charge a capacitor that will provide power when the sun is down!

WeDo Robot Kit—now available
Yes, you can take home a kit to build and program a robot! The WeDo robot system shows you how to construct a variety of fun creatures which you can then program to move, make noise, and flash messages on the computer screen. Of course you can also build and program your own creations. These robots are tethered, which means that they must be connected to your computer to work.

Mindstorms Robot Kit—coming soon
Using the Mindstorms Robot kit you can build a mobile robot that can move independently. Programming the robot is done through the keypad on the LEGO brick.

Mindstorms Robot Extension Kit—coming soon
After mastering the basics of building a robot, you can expand your programming and building capabilities by checking out the expansion kit. This kit contains the computer software that will allow you to program the robot to do several independent actions. It also contains additional LEGO pieces.
